LWL Pro-D Day Camp at Stratford Hall (November 2023)

This November, LWL hosted a holiday themed Pro-D Day Camp at Stratford Hall. We had a day filled with excitement, learning, and creativity. From storytelling and crafts to confident communication and public speaking, as well as an exploration of the human body, this camp provided a diverse range of activities for children of different age groups. The camp was divided into two groups based on the children's ages. Let's take a moment to revisit the highlights of this memorable day!

Storytelling and Crafts
In the younger group, the children embarked on a captivating journey through three enchanting Christmas stories: "How to Catch an Elf", "Deck the Walls" and "Geckos 12 Days of Christmas." These stories ignited their imagination and sparked their creativity.

After the storytelling session, the children engaged in a fun craft activity where they created their own Rudolph. This hands-on experience further enriched their camp experience and allowed them to express their creativity.

Short Story Study and Creative Writing

The older group delved into heartwarming tales of "How to Catch an Elf", "Tough Cookie" and "A World of Cookies for Santa". These stories touched their hearts and provided them with valuable lessons about resilience and the spirit of giving during the holiday season.

As part of the camp activities, the older children had the opportunity to express their thoughts and wishes by writing letters to Santa, allowing them to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

Confident Communication and Public Speaking
Developing effective communication skills is crucial, and the camp provided a platform for children to enhance their confidence in expressing themselves.

The younger group explored the magic of poetry by composing a delightful poem titled "I've Been Waiting for Christmas." They engaged in a lively discussion about Christmas, sharing their excitement and traditions. Additionally, they crafted beautiful Christmas garlands and ornaments.

The older group embraced the power of public speaking through their poem, "Remember the Reindeer," and created a craft focusing on reindeer, bringing their creativity to life.

Human Body, Anatomy and Physiology
Education can be fun, and the camp proved just that with an engaging session on the human body. The children learned about four vital organs: the brain, lungs, heart, and liver.

Through interactive activities and demonstrations, they gained a deeper understanding of how these organs function and contribute to our overall well-being. This session sparked their curiosity and fostered an appreciation for the human body's complexity !

Scavenger hunt
To add an element of adventure and teamwork, the camp organised an exciting scavenger hunt. Participants worked together to solve riddles and clues, leading them to hidden treasures. This activity encouraged critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, as the children eagerly explored their surroundings in search of the ultimate prize.

Christmas movie
As the day drew to a close, the camp provided a moment of relaxation and entertainment with a Christmas movie. The children enjoyed a heartwarming film that further immersed them in the holiday spirit.

Through storytelling, crafts, and engaging activities, our holiday themed camp fostered creativity, teamwork, and curiosity. The campers left with smiles on their faces and cherished memories, carrying with them valuable lessons and experiences.
