Empowering Parents: Free Phonics Resources for for Early Learners (Ages 3-7.5)
For many LWL families, our Phonics & Spelling program plays a crucial role in supporting their child's early literacy development. Two essential pillars in our class are CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words and high-frequency sight words. We provide fantastic free resources available to help your child excel in these areas.

What are CVC words?
CVC words are consonant-vowel-consonant words, such as "hat", "sit", and "pen". The vowel sound in CVC words is always short, and students learn to blend the individual sounds together to read these simple but important words. Becoming comfortable with CVC words is a key step in a child's pre-reading journey, as it lays the foundation for tackling more complex words later on.
What are high-frequency sight words?
High-frequency sight words are common words like "the", "and", and "it" that appear frequently in the English language. Many of these words cannot be easily sounded out, so students need to memorize them by sight. Mastering sight words allows readers to focus on decoding less familiar words, which in turn improves reading fluency.
